Homegirl Of The Month - July

This month's homegirl is Chrisette Michele. I had the pleasure of seeing her in concert last night when she opened for Maxwell. Chrisette's vocals have put her at the top of the class in the female R&B genre. Chrisette brings a breath of fresh air to the auto-tuned, overproduced and mediocre arena of urban music. For that, I am truly grateful.

Chrisette got her break performing at a nightclub in New York when she was discovered by a rep that worked for L.A. Reid who is the Chairman and CEO of Island Def Jam Music Group. Chrisette's talent quickly locked her into a guest vocal stint delivering the hook for label mate Jay-Z's track,"Lost One." She also sang the Nat King Cole inspired hook for Nas' "Can't Forget About You."

Her vocal stylings are reminiscent of legendary songstresses like Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn and Billie Holliday. Her phrasing is ridiculously awesome and her vocal range would make singers like Ciara and Rihanna want to evaluate their day jobs. Her latest album Epiphany made it to number one on the Billboard charts and is continuously making waves. Chrisette's charities include Fairways and Highways which raises awareness of domestic abuse and Hope Brings Peace which benefits victims of kidney disease.

Chrisette is the epitome of class, grace and style! Chrisette, Life Inside My Head salutes you!

There is something about Chrisette which reaps of elegance. Love the song she collab'd with Jay Z.
