August and September’s homegirl’s are Venus and Serena Williams. The Williams sisters burst onto the scene in the late 1990’s and have been dominating women’s professional tennis ever since. Between the two of them, they have claimed 42 Grand Slam titles for single, doubles and mixed doubles competition. The Williams sisters are feared and praised for their lightening fast and powerful serves (Venus has been clocked at 129 mph and Serena at 128 mph). The sisters have dominated the sport of tennis often alternating the number 1 seed (Serena is currently number 1).

The sisters grew up in Compton, California and were coached by their controversial father, Richard Williams. They have a long history of competing with each other but each sister admits strong love and admiration for the other. The sisters are entrepreneurs with clothing lines, interior design businesses and investors (they are current shareholders of the Miami Dolphins football team). They are spokeswomen for several charities including the OWL foundation which funds programs to help kids with academic difficulties and the UNESCO-Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Gender Equity program.

Paula Patton may not be a household name yet but she’s probably been in more household TV. sets than you might think. Moviegoers will remember the actress from her scene stealing stint in 2005’s Idlewild starring Outkast’s Andre Benjamin (Andre 3000) and Antwan Patton (Big Boi). She also guest starred in Déjà vu (2006) with Denzel Washington and opposite Will Smith in Hitch (2005). Paula Patton has to be one of the luckiest women in the world to have worked with these sexy gentlemen and to be married to one of R&B’s hottest stars right now, Robin Thicke.

Paula studied film at USC and graduated magna cum laude. She worked as a producer at PBS then realized she had a love for acting. She pursued the acting bug and enrolled in acting classes. She later landed the role in Hitch. Paula is currently starring in the critically acclaimed Precious as a schoolteacher. The movie is based off of the novel Push by Sapphire. Paula’s charities include Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation and the Avon Foundation Champions Who Change Lives.
