Disc Review - Attention Deficit, Wale (2009)

In a time when Hip Hop is all about auto-tune and seemingly one-dimensional, it's refreshing to hear a rapper like Wale. He's a DC rapper who had monster success on the mix-tape circuit before releasing his first mainstream effort. The disc plays like a polished mix-tape incorporating some of the best talent in Hip-Hop and R&B. Guests on the album are Bun B, Pharrell, Jazmine Sullivan, Lady Gaga, Chrisette Michele, Marsha Ambrosious and Gucci Mane. That's quite an impressive list of collabo's considering this dude was virtually unknown to those not accustomed to the underground of rap.

Wale also has an impressive list of producers to include Mark Ronson (Amy Winehouse, Wu-Tang), Cool and Dre, and newcomer Best Kept Secret. Standout tracks are Pretty Girls featuring Gucci, World Tour with Jazmine Sullivan, Shades with Chrisette Michele and the introspective Contemplate.

Wale has a delivery similar to the likes of Lupe Fiasco and knack for thought provoking double entendre's ala Jay-Z and Nas. Is he Hip-Hop's heir apparent?

Yezzir!

i was advised to listen to Wale. i'd say he is easily one of the more prized emcees in the game right now. true emcees.

True emcee'ing is hard to come by these days. My brain hurts when listening to some of this stuff nowadays.
