BUY THIS ALBUM!!!

HOTT FI-YAH!!!

Just when I thought I couldn't get more excited about new music, along comes Chrisette Michele. Her debut album entitled "I AM" is like the heading says...HOTT FI-YAH! If you dig the soul sirens of yesteryear like the incomparable Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn then you will love the vocalistics of Chrisette Michele. She is a big admirer of the aforementioned legends and it shows. She was discovered by L.A. Reid. Chrisette has been featured on songs as a hook specialist for artists like Nas and Jigga man himself. She makes us not forget about her on Nas' "Can't Forget About You" and delivers the chorus to Jay-Z's "Lost Ones" like a B-girl with jazz era flair.

The album is a continuous treat. She starts out with the breezy "Like A Dream" where she playfully almost scats on the track. Other standouts are the girl-powered anthem "Good Girl" and "Be O.K." featuring will.i.am of the Black Eyed Peas (who also produced the track). She's got a few ballads, one written and produced by Babyface entitled "Best of Me." The single out now "If I Had My Way" she lays it out beautifully and convincingly about what she'd do for love. She has a song co-written by John Legend called "Love Is You" which she sings sweetly and creates an atmosphere of an after club closing piano set. I can let this disc play without skipping a single song.

She's a gifted writer and wrote or co-wrote nearly every track on the disc. Every lyric tends to pull on the emotional strings, whether it be something bouncy like "Let's Rock" or the insistent, passionate Salaam (Amy Winehouse beat maker) Remi produced "I'm In This For You." If you have an open ear to great music and a unique style not found in today's soul/r&b market, then you will love this album. Billie and Sarah would be proud.

Risa, I wrote the name down of this singer and I am going to go purchase the CD. I brought Gerald Levert's latest CD. I haven't listen to it yet, but I can't wait. I saw the tribute that Patti Labelle; his father; Yolanda Adams and Gladys Knight did on the Bet award show. It was a good performance that brought tears to my eyes. He was too young to die of something, he could have prevented. Hopefully, someone have learned from his error.
