Buy This Album! and Random Thoughts...

Ledisi (pronounced Led-uh-see) has given me further ammunition in my war against "hot garbage" being spewed through mainstream radio. I'm not a total hater because I loves me some crunk and dance music when the mood calls for it but on a regular rotation, I need my fill of good "soul" music. Ledisi is feeding me ya'll. The young lady straight out of the Big Easy has just released a jewel of an album entitled "Lost and Found." Ledisi has actually been around the music world for a minute. She's enjoyed most of her success "underground" where most respected artists hone their mettle. She released an album back in 98' called "Soulsinger." Those who have known what's really good have been enjoying this talented siren for years. Well, I just jumped on the bandwagon and i'm happy to be here!

She opens with the intro "Been Here" which gives you just a taste of what is yet to come on this impressive disc. She gets her early Jill Scott on with the bouncy "Joy." She pines for a deeper love with her best friend on the appropriately titled song of the same name. The single that's blessing the airwaves is the uber positive "Alright" which she basically tells us that even though the school of hard knocks been keeping a sister in detention, she's still gonna graduate! The dirty groove of "Think of You" has cemented that song as THE jam of the whole set. The live drum makes me wanna pull my car over and pretend i'm Cindy Blackmon (Lenny Kravitz' fierce lady drummer).

The song "Lost and Found" is truly the crown jewel of this album. The words are powerful and a testament to the record making process according to an interview Ledisi did on Steve Harvey's morning show. This album is like that and she scats, coos and beckons like a true "soul sanger" only can. When asked by one of the co-hosts of the morning show where she has been, Ledisi simply replied, "I've been here all the time." What was once Lost is now Found by me and a whole lot of other folks because I couldn't find this disc anywhere in town. I subsequently downloaded it from iTunes. Find this disc and let the soul sounds of Ledisi find you...

*I heard her live show is something to be seen...check her out if she comes to your town
** Ledisi's been nominated for a Grammy for Best New Artist and Best R&B Album

Wolftickets...

O.k., so I had this audition to sing with this band thats trying to find a lead vocalist. The first attempt at this was halted when I arrived and the bassist had a hangover from a night of boozing. Ok, fine things happen, we're young. But today was the "reschedule" from the first attempt. Guess what? Yep, cancelled. So, I ask...what would you do? I understand things happen but first impressions are lasting ones and second attempts are futile. Looks like I might still be kicking it solo. That's cool. I have no use for wolftickets.

Britney Spears' 16 year old little sister is knocked up. What the hell is going on with those girls? You would think that what Brit is going through would be enough to make lil' sis think twice. Apparently she didn't even think once to use some protection. I ain't passing judgement but dang, are you kidding me?

I know some of you actually consider some of my reviews of albums so i'll be posting the 1st annual "Riss' Picks - The Top Ten Albums of the Year." If you all have any discs or new artists you'd like to know more about or have me take a listen, drop the info in the comments section.

Additionally, it's almost Christmas and I haven't mentioned anything about it. I'll be posting a special Holiday post here soon as well. Take care and be careful out there. Wal-Mart is crazy busy. Also, keep the folks in the midwest in your prayers as well as the troops.
