Are You Ready For Summer...?

Hopefully your answer is a resounding YES! I for one started the summer season off in fine fashion by visiting the great state of TEXAS! I was in the Dallas area about a week ago and had a complete and utter blast! I ate tons of Mexican food and enjoyed the unusually mild weather there this time of year. More updates on that trip to come!

So what's in store for us this summer? Hmmm...how about...

Ridiculously expensive gas prices! Let's face it, we're all getting hosed at the pump (sorry, I couldn't resist) and it's not predicted to get any better this season. So rather than bitch and moan about emptying my imaginary inheritance to get around town, I've listed below 5 ways to stay mobile without taking out a personal loan for petrol:

1. Carpool - Yeah, it sucks if you're an independent lady (or gent) like myself who's always on the go and doesn't really want to depend on the kindness of others road handling skills but it will save you a few bucks and you won't have to empty out your savings every month.

2. Public Transportation - Unless you're in public transportation friendly cities like New York or Chicago, the thought of catching the bus or train is a pretty foreign concept. It might behoove you to go to your town's local public transportation website and do a little research. Besides, you might meet a few cool new people ~ remember, every opportunity to talk to someone new is a link in the chain of networking, or potential for a new found stalker! :)

3. Biking - It beats walking, is good exercise, and you can enjoy the scenery in complete 3-D. You might not be in love with the idea of sporting that stunner bike helmet and reflective attire, but at least you'll be able to bedazzle it with the new found wealth you've incurred from not driving!

4. Skating - Not the most glamorous and damn near dangerous here where I live but it's another quick way to move without pay. Besides, skating is making a comeback of sorts. So whether you're on in-lines or quads (you know the four banger with two wheels in the front and two in back) you'll swiftly arrive at your destination bedazzled and all! (see above)

5. Walking - The (ugh) last and least appealing option for most people. It may even take longer and with the weather progressively getting hot as hell, you may want to consider options 1-4. Alas, it is a money saver and heart saver (hey a little extra exercise is always good). Mother nature, your wallet and your body will thank you for it.

Could this be the face of America?

Some say it very well could be. Wouldn't it be exciting to possibly witness one of the most monumental moments in our nation's history? It wouldn't surprise me. Barry's got the momentum and currently the lead in delegates. Bill Clinton may have to surrender the crown as the nation's "first black president."

Tuna, Fish and the Dancer

In what could be the most exciting buzz in the NFL this season, Jason Taylor may have danced his last leading tackle with the Miami Dolphins. New President of Football Operations Bill Parcells and Coach Tony Sparano are none too happy about the twinkle-toed defensive lineman's dismissal of attending "voluntary" offseason training camp mostly due to his committment to appear as a contestant on the ABC show Dancing With The Stars before the new regime sailed into town. There have been talks of a trade, JT wanting to go play for a contender and gasp, the star actually wanting to come back and play. The jury is still out on this one. Hopefully things will work out for Taylor or if not, he can just come do personal dances for me in my living room!

What's on you play list?

If you haven't already, go pick up the latest offering from Mariah Carey entitled E=MC2. It's the latest banger from the multiple Grammy winner following the uber successful Emancipation of MiMi. The album is solid formula with production contributions for Jermaine Dupri, The Dream and others. It's a great album for the summer. I'll post a full review in a later post.

Other artists of note to drop an album this summer are:

Usher - Here I Stand (May 27)
Anthony Hamilton - The Point Of It All (June 08)
Neyo - Year Of The Gentleman (August 08)

So there you have it folks...enough to get your mind wandering and prepared for the heat that is to come! Stay tuned for the annual post: "Eye Candy - Top 12 Hotties of Summer" (in case you missed last summer's click here), music reviews and as always, my dynamic and unwavering witty commentary!

Cheers!
