The Best Friggin' Restaurant Ever!!

It's official, Saltgrass Steak House is now my favorite restaurant of all time. I had a deliciously wonderful time there last night where I enjoyed the best meal of my life.

It all started with the fast service. We were seated within seconds of arrival (possibly due to the later hour, around 8:30 p.m.) but it was on a Saturday with a pretty full parking lot. We were welcomed by our waiter who gave us a brief rundown of the eatery being that we'd never dined there. Saltgrass, apparently, is the "original" Texas steak house. That was a pretty big rep to put out there but I went along with him. We asked about an appetizer that he would recommend and he suggested the "Range Rattlers" which were jalapeno peppers stuffed with pepper jack cheese and gulf shrimp all battered up and fried for your cholesterol loving pleasure. The size of one was about the size a medium soup ladle. The sizes were the four or six count. Thank God we chose the four because I barely got through the two. If you don't like spicy, I wouldn't recommend them. If you like to live a little then you won't be disappointed.

Next was the selection of the main course. I chose the "Pat's Ribeye" which was excellent. The steak was seasoned so well, I felt like singing it's praises from the roof-top. The steak doesn't require any help. My friend received an inquisitive look from our waiter when the inquiry of "A1" came up. The 12oz is more than enough to satisfy your hunger. The main dish came with a salad, side dish and bread. I added a row of grilled gulf-shrimp for $5 that were mouth watering. If you do select the steak (and you must because it's a steak joint and it would be sacrilegious not to) have a glass of the Blackstone Winery Merlot. It enhances the flavor of the steak, it's good and if you feel like doing it big you can purchase a bottle which they allow you to re-cork and take home!

Everything was great from the service to the bread (which is sweet and comes to the table with butter, warm and ready for devouring) to the dinner salad, sides and main dish. The ambiance is ranch style with photos and a fireplace, old dusty license plates and other nostalgic memorabilia. The price is fitting for the meal, setting us back about $75 together. Don't let the price scare you away. You won't dine there everyday and besides, you should treat yourself. You won't be disappointed.

The only negative (which really isn't a negative if you think about it) is the way the appetizer ran into the main dish. There was barely any time to enjoy the 'tizers before the steak but I can get over that. You'll be able to as well. They are primarily a Texas treat but they have locations in Louisiana, Colorado, Nevada, Oklahoma, North Carolina and Tennessee. If there's one close to you, make the effort to stop by. Tell em' I sent ya! Nah, just kidding, they'd probably look at you like you were smoking something.
