March's Homegirl of the Month is the supremely talented screenwriter and producer, Shonda Rhimes. Unless you've been living under a rock for the past five years then you know she's the Svengali behind the ABC medical drama series, Grey's Anatomy. Ms. Rhimes revolutionized the T.V. game and created an almost cult following for the show.

Shonda graduated from Dartmouth with a Bachelor's degree then headed to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of screenwriting. She enrolled at the University of Southern California and graduated with a Master of Fine Arts at USC's School of Cinema-Television. She also earned the distinguished Gary Rosenberg Writing Fellowship Award. After graduation and performing a few odd jobs, she landed the opportunity to write the script for the critically acclaimed HBO movie Introducing Dorothy Dandridge starring Halle Berry. She also wrote on the Disney movies The Princess Diaries and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement both starring Julie Andrews and Anne Hathaway.

Her major break came when her pilot for a medical drama series was green lit from ABC. Grey's Anatomy took off like a rocket and became one of the top programs in prime time television history. The series was so successful that it spawned a spin off called Private Practice also created and written by Rhimes. Grey's has received several awards for acting and a Golden Globe for it's creator for Best Drama TV Series. Characters from the show played by Patrick Dempsey and Eric Dane were given monikers such as the infamous "McDreamy" and "McSteamy" respectively.

Shonda Rhimes is an example of shattered stereotypes and a realization of dreams. Shonda, Life Inside My Head salutes you!
